Chad Lamont Pugmire passed away peacefully in his daughter’s home, on Friday, July 17, 2026, after spending the last eight months on hospice. We appreciate his caretakers and the support team at Dixie Hospice. Chad was born on February 1, 1943, in Montpelier, Idaho, to Lamont Jr. and Ada Rex Pugmire. He grew up on the family farm, where he developed a lifelong love of farming and learned the values of hard work, dedication, and stewardship that would shape the course of his life. During high school, Chad enjoyed playing the trombone in the school band and performing in a trombone trio. He was especially proud when the trio received superior ratings at competition. He also participated in track and graduated in 1961. After graduation, Chad served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Germany. Before leaving, he was promised he would be able to easily learn the German language, and he was grateful to see that promise fulfilled. Chad attended Brigham Young University, where he met Marianna Hanson. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple and began their life together, soon welcoming six children: Boyd, Darrell, Corinne, Blaine, Kenneth, and Melanie. After 17 years of marriage they divorced. Chad’s life and relationships were complicated, yet he loved his children and grandchildren very much. He often said, “Despite me, my children all turned out really well.” He considered his family one of his greatest blessings and took immense pride in the lives they have built. Chad worked as a control operator for Utah Power and Light, but farming was his true passion. He found joy, purpose, and peace in working the land and sharing his knowledge of agriculture with others. He had a deep appreciation for the beauty of a healthy crop and would often look across a vibrant green field of alfalfa and say, “Now that is beautiful!” Chad often shared that he had a strong testimony of the Atonement of Jesus Christ. He loved the opportunity to serve as a temple worker in the Payson and St. George temples, where he found fulfillment in serving others and participating in sacred work. Chad married Norma Jean Jensen Long in June 2022. Their wedding day was one of his happiest days in years. Norma passed away one day before their nine-month anniversary. Chad was preceded in death by Marianna Pugmire & Norma Long; his son, Blaine Pugmire; his grandsons, Trevin Selk and Elijah Pugmire; his parents, Lamont Jr. and Ada Rex Pugmire; and his sister, Jane Hillier. He is survived by his children: Boyd (Julie) Pugmire of Franklin, Idaho; Darrell (Tami) Pugmire of Mapleton, Utah; Corinne (Troy) Selk of Highland, Utah; Nicole (Brodie) Berg of Springville, Utah; Kenneth (Teresa) Pugmire of Payson, Utah; and Melanie (Jason) Crane of St. George, Utah. He is also survived by his siblings: Tamara Bernson of Fish Haven, Idaho; Sonja (Rusty) Bassett of St. Charles, Idaho; Jim Hillier of St. Charles, Idaho; and Rex (Tami) Pugmire of Orem, Utah, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought him great joy and remain an important part of his legacy. Family and friends will gather for an interment service on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at 11 a.m. at the St. Charles, Idaho Cemetery.
